PostSubject: The Prince And The Flower Maiden   2010-10-20, 4:52 am

(Continued from another site. Small excerpt of where it was left off from)

Aeris and Elen lead the way from the shack they had met the Elder within and to what they were to consider home for the last few weeks. Aeris stuck close to Michru and silently wondered how this young girl came to be. She began to wonder whether her being mute had anything to do with her past, or if it was more of a medical condition. Much to her disgust Aeris decided if it were a medical problem, Midgar would surely have a cure. Not the cure she would desire however a cure is a cure. But alas, Midgar was no where in sight and she wasn't about to dwell on it.

Once their quaint little home was in sight, Elen decided to take Michru in before Aeris and Emanulle. Aeris paused outside the door, a curious and distant look crossing her angelic features. "Hey Emanulle?" The flower maiden began to fiddle sheepishly with her golden bracelet that wrapped around her left arm, eyes not entirely on Emanulle once she had his attention. "How do you keep up with this all? It's like every where we go, trouble brews. I hate war and fighting. Really I do."

Emanulle paused for a moment, thinking. He too wondered how he kept up with the constant madness that was life. The young man had seen a lot in his short life and far as he was concerned, a bit too much.

"You just have too, Aeris." He finally said. "As much as I'd wish it was otherwise life can be very harsh to those who are fragile. Sometimes, I wonder if all this is worth it and I see you and Elen. And I see little things still worth watching over and protecting.." He looked in the direction Michru had gone with Elen. "That is why I keep fighting Aeris. It's what keeps me going. As long as you have something to fight for then you can keep pushing forward no matter how bleak things may become."

He gently put a hand on Aeris' shoulder. "Don't take the whole burden on your own Aeris, we're all here. If you do, it'll break you."

A warm, gentle smile spread across the young woman's expression as the distance between Emanulle and herself had been closed. He had always been a close friend of hers, one she would cherish no matter what happened. She seemed relieved that he understood what she meant, the feelings she was taking in right now and that he could make her feel better about it. He was right, too. They would always be together. There would always be a reason to keep fighting, to protect those who mean the world to you. If that was Elen, Emanulle, Michru or even another; she knew now she couldn't give up.

"Thanks Emanulle." Her soft voice chimed in the still air around them. "I just hope this war doesn't destroy everything. I'm tired of that sort of thing." She then began to shake her head of such thoughts, it was better not to dwell on them right now. Instead she turned towards the shack and motioned for Emanulle to accompany her inside. "We should fight for some food. That sounds like a better idea."

Emanulle was pleased he had been able to help Aeris feel better, someone like her shouldn't be feeling down. She was usually the one picking people up or helping them in the right direction but it was moments like these that made him realize, she, like everyone else needed a helping help.

Then again so did everyone.

Michru was hanging around Elen, not saying anything but seemingly content to follow the woman around. It seemed she was already latching onto someone she was comfortable with, and in this case it happened to be Aeris' mother. It wasn't surprising to Emanulle, she gave off that kind of air about her.

"Looks like the little one already found a new friend." He mused out loud, but mostly to Aeris. "Do you want me to cook something? I don't mind, it actually relaxes me."

Michru, still close to Elen(or rather sort of hiding behind her) just looked at the other two from time to time, Aeris and Emanulle were going have to break her out of her shell. Though knowing them it wouldn't take long.

Elen was beaming with a new glow that Aeris had rarely seen upon her mothers face in days of late. Michru, who seemed to adore Elen at the moment, must have been the reason. Aeris thought that perhaps Elen, knowing her history with wanting children, must have been so eager to have another young girl about to be friends with. "If you don't mind Emanulle, I would love it if you made something. I'm feeling a bit weathered today. Old bones and all." Of course the woman said this with a smile upon her warm features.

Aeris immediately smiled and twirled beside Emanulle like a pixie of sorts. "I'll help cutting vegetables if you want." Her sparkling emerald hues were set on the part of the humble home that was considered the kitchen. But before she stepped foot closer, she paused. "Michru, after we eat would you like to help make a cake? Or perhaps cookies? It's always a good idea to have sweets around the house." Aeris pointed out with a chuckle.

Elen absently rolled her eyes at her daughter. "You definitely are made of Sugar and Spice, Aeris."

Too most people, this moment wouldn't be considered as big of a deal. For Emanulle though, it was. In his short time walking this earth he had seen the woman who had raised him like a mother brutally murdered simply for trying to protect them from ignorant villagers. He had witnessed first hand how cruel some places could be to those who were different or didn't exactly fit into the normal mold. Instead of making him cruel or bitter, it had done the opposite. It had made the young man treat others better and be more empathetic.

Now, through all that and for the longest time he could remember he was..content. There were still things left unsaid and that needed to be done, but at the end of the day he could say he was happy.

To not live life to its fullest and not treat others as he did now wouldn't be honoring Eliza's memory.

He chuckled to the banter between Elen and Aeris. "I think you help balance that out, between the two of us I'm not sure which is worse in regards to sweets."

There was a slight pause, then Michru just nodded signaling that she was fine with it. Otherwise, she didn't move far from being Elen's little shadow.

Shaking his head slightly amused, Emanulle headed into the kitchen--grabbing various tools and food and setting it on the counter. "I remember when I was younger, I often had maids and the like cook for me but honestly, I wanted to do it myself. I didn't want to be babied with that with everything else I had already seen.."

"I'm a lot happier here though." Emanulle said mainly to Aeris as he got the last of cooking equipment neatly geared away and ready. "I don't regret ever giving up my position as prince where I come from, it wasn't for me."

Aeris trotted behind Emanulle eagerly into the kitchen. Her curious eyes followed the Prince about the small area, watching as he decided what he would need and what wasn't necessary for the making of the meal. He was interesting to watch, the way he moved. It would have been more interesting to know what he thought most of the time however. Aeris leaned against the counter as she patiently awaited instructions.

"Every once and a while, it would be nice to be pampered I think. But more as a vacation, not an every day ordeal." Often Aeris forgot that her Manny had actually been a Prince. It was as if it had been a previous life of his. Since the memory was not her own, it was that much more difficult to remember it truly did happen. "I'm glad you're happy with us, Emanulle. Our little troupe of characters." Slightly Aeris tilted her head, eyes just barely reaching her feet. From time to time, with such a mind toward fantasy as hers, the young Cetra did occasionally muse what sort of world Emanulle had originated from. To be the Prince of a place; was it beautiful? Were the people there like Emanulle? Sure he had mentioned a few things about it but never truly painted a masterpiece within the girls mind. Nothing to quench the curious thirst.

Emanulle sometimes had to remember he didn't always talk to much about his past--at least with regards to being a Prince. There was nothing truly wrong about that time, it was just the time spent there wasn't nearly as fulfilling as it felt, we'll here.

"I do have a few pictures of home.."

Reaching into his pockets from his wallet, he pulled out a picture or two. He handed both to Aeris, but she could show Elen if she wanted.

"The first picture is Madu City, I've only been there twice but its a nice place. It literally floats in the sky and is populated by a race called Angels. The other..is another location. I can't remember but it was in one of the cities." At this point, even the quite Michru got curious enough to crawl out from under the shadow of Elen, just to see what all the fuss was about. Emanulle noted this but didn't want to startle her.

"I'll have to take you and Elen there one day." He finished. "Of course, this time such a vacation would be planned." Emanulle mused, referring to the part that they hadn't come here by their own choice.

He placed a large pot on the stove after putting water it and setting it on the right temperature. "Just put the vegetables in and I'll handle the rest when you're finished looking at those pictures. Give Elen a chance to see them too."

Aeris gazed at the photos, simply awe struck with the beauty of each one. The one Emanulle called Madu City caught her eye. Even more so when he said it was a city that drifted in the sky. It seemed so earthly it was hard to believe such a place would dwell in the blue skies. Shuffling the pictures she then stared at the other given to her. She assumed her vivid greenish blue hues were staring at either water or blue crystal walk ways. Either way, it was possibly the most beautiful place she had ever seen. "Whoa, Manny. I can't believe these were close to your home. They're very pretty."

Elen walked up behind her daughter, placing a gentle hand on her left shoulder while peaking over at the pictures as well. "Those are very lovely places Emanulle." With a longing sigh the woman put a hand to her chest. "It would definitely be a place to visit in the future."

The young Cetra giggled. "I would love to explore those cities. Do you really think we could take a vacation there sometime, Manny??"

"Once we find a way back home then we can see about going back to my home. If we do, you have my word we'll visit at least once. I used to have a device that allowed me to travel between realms but I lost it when I came to your world. I need to see about finding it, once we get back." Emanulle then realized he had called Aeris and Elen's place "home" without even paying it a second thought. Maybe that really shouldn't have surprised him. After all he considered Elen and Aeris family so why wouldn't he consider their home, his home? It only made sense.

Still..There was this Fafnir character. Why exactly does he want and did he have a more direct hand in this? If I could talk to him maybe I could finally get some more answers..

Worrying about it wasn't going to do any good, but he tended to think ahead and sometimes doing so wasn't always a good thing. I should take my own advice; I'm not alone in this. I don't need to figure everything out right now, much less on my own.

Emanulle, once gathering the needed ingerdients put them on the stove to cook, turning it on mid-way. It still amused him, that this place had some more 'modern' conviences. Of course the stoves didn't work on electric but something called Mana, he'd have to ask what it was exactly. Michru had lost interest of what was going on for the moment and curled up on the couch, going to sleep.

"Is there any places outside of Midgar we could visit?" He asked more of Elen, since he wasn't sure if Aeris had ever really been outside of Midgar. That place was a depressing city, but there had to be more to that world.

Aeris had been a taken off guard when Emanulle prepared most of the food himself. She had, once more, gotten lost in the conversation at hand and lost track of time. It was no wonder her mother often gave her a hand when dealing with the stove. She was probably afraid Aeris would burn whatever was meant to be supper. Blushing with mild embarrassment Aeris turned until she faced entirely away from Emanulle. Her chocolate colored bangs gave enough cover to contain most of the pink hue from shining through.

Elen had been weaving in and out of the conversation. She had now taken a seat in the other room, patiently watching Michru as the small girl decided a cat-nap would be a good choice of activity. Emanulle's question however struck her odd. She knew Aeris wouldn't have much input about the world beside Midgar. Taking in a deep breath and patting the wrinkles out of her dark green dress, Elen decided to speak up. "There's the casino, Arcade like place across the ocean. I think it's called Gold Saucer. I believe it's past the port town of Costa del Sol. That's another big tourist spot." Elen brushed aside strands of graying hair. She continued to think but very little came to mind of interesting hot spots. "There's some places up in the mountains too, come to think of it." Bashfully she waved a hand though. "Bah, that's only if you enjoy the snow and a chance of frost bite."

"I like snow!" Chirped Aeris after recovering from her bashful moment. She had raised a single hand as she claimed her fondness of snow, but lowered it once Elen gave her a curious, arched brow look. "What? It might be cold but it's so clean and white. I've always wanted to build a snowman too." The last bit was directed to Emanulle whom she leaned towards as she mentioned it.

Emanulle found Aeris turning away like she did a bit curious, but left it alone for now. Luckily for her, her act got what she had wanted and he hadn't caught as much as a brief look of her cheeks turning pink. Not that he would have embarrassed Aeris further with whatever it was and bring it to light. It was likely he would just pretend not to have noticed either way.

It took a moment of Emanulle thinking of what an 'Arcade' was. They didn't have one back at Halzara or Alus though some places did have games. While the prince had never experienced it himself, he had heard in Alus the Holo Simulators were quite addicting as they seemed limited to the users imagination. Perhaps a bit too well made, as some people refused to come out of reality after a time.

Aeris sudden announcement caught him by surprised, but it also amused him. "I didn't know you liked the snow Aeris, I'll have to take you there then one day when we go back home.." What he didn't expect was Aeris to lean towards him, a rather innocent gesture to be honest so why did it make him feel..strange? It wasn't unpleasant though, quite the opposite.

Maybe I'm coming down with something. He reasoned with himself.

Pushing it away, for now, he turned off the stove and got everyone a plate setting them on the table for his family to eat at. "I haven't cooked in a while, but I think it should be adequate." That was a bit of a understatement, Emanulle was actually a pretty decent cook.

Michru was still sleep at this point, but she was slowly stirring picking up the smell of food.

Aeris finally caught up with Emanulle and snatched eating utensils for everyone and set them besides the plates he had already laid out. Both her and Elen were very pleased with Emanulle deciding to cook. He was wonderful at it. When Emanulle was not around, Aeris and Elen often teased that if they should loose their metabolism to anything such as old age or being unhealthy, surely they would become overweight. Aeris feared such a thing happening to her. But Emanulle was also very good at remembering to make the meal healthy. If it were up to her, Aeris would cook nothing but cookies and pies.

"I really do like the snow. I know it's suppose to be really cold but that would give me a reason to go shopping for warm clothes." Aeris giggled as she sat up at the table, between Emanulle and Elen. Elen was the second to sit, already complimenting Emanulle on another job well done. "It looks delicious, Manny." Chimed Aeris.

Emanulle had to wonder just where the nickname had came from, but it didn't bother him. In fact he found the whole thing endearing and certainly did fit. Michru took a seat to where she was closes to Elen and between Aeris. She had taken a liking to Aeris' mother but she was starting to warm up to the other two adults of the house hold, but then it was hard to dislike the other two.

"That's true. I just want to see what else is out there in your world. I've always been curious about other peoples cultures and backgrounds, its just I've never gotten a chance to be outside Midgar.." Michru in the mean time, poked at her food before cautiously deciding if she should eat or not. Then after taking a bit she decided it was 'ok' and continued.

Aeris nodded as she mentally agreed with Emanulle. Midgar was more of a pitfall than a city. Once you were in, you stayed in. Like a well kept prison. Too bad it was good folks being locked away beneath the surface of Midgar rather than the scum that lived above it all. Aeris up took her fork once the food was laid before her. She proceeded to gather some food on the end before placing it in her mouth to taste. It was good, like all the food Emanulle cooked.

"I'm sorry Emanulle that the only place you really got to see was only Midgar. It does our planet no justice, that's for sure." Commented Elen after swallowing her third bite. From the corner of her dark pupils she watched Michru carefully. She was glad the young girl was at least participating and sitting at the table. Elen would not have argued if Michru decided to eat else where, though it wouldn't help break the shell around her. "It's very good by the way."

"I think we all have places in our home we're a bit less then proud of. Back where I'm from is no different, nothing is perfect." Emanulle knew that all too well. Whether it was back home or too the many realms he had gone and traveled too there had been marks that knocked off its beauty. Here in whatever this dimension they currently resided in was named was no different.

"Though, honestly, a place with absolutely no conflict or struggle of any kind isn't much better. If there is no conflict or pain after a while, how do you even know you're alive? You'd simply go through the motions and eventually, that Utopia would become a hell." Emanulle finished his tangent. It was just like him to think about things like these, since he was a deep thinker to begin with.

Michru didn't really understand what was going on, but after a bit, she held out a bit of her food to Aeris, as if giving a peace offering.

This seemed to amuse the young prince. "I think she's warming up to you." His tone made it clear he was a bit tickled by the whole thing. After they got done eating, he was going to talk to Aeris alone before they headed to bed. Tomorrow was going to be more then a bit busy, and he wanted to enjoy this while it lasted in the mean time.

Elen had clearly forgotten who it was she had been sharing a conversation with. Emanulle was not like an ordinary boy but a very deep well of information of knowledge. It had surprised her how much Emanulle seemed to remind her of Aeris the first time they had shared such a moment. Aeris, though Elen knew her since she was young, was also a very mindful girl and mysterious in her own ways. Elen, being the motherly figure she was, mentally pondered at that very moment what the result would be like if Emanulle and Aeris should ever have the chance to reproduce. The idea made the elderly woman smile mentally. Grandchildren.

Aeris giggled happily after seeing Michru offer a part of her own food. "You are so sweet, Michru!" Aeris' voice was as gentle as wind chimes but her face held a warmth that was much like Elen around children. A motherly air.

After dinner Aeris and Elen charged themselves with the task of washing dishes. They were famous for finishing quickly, no matter how many pots and pans laid littered in a kitchen. The girls giggled away while bubbles clung up to their elbows from the soapy water. After it was done, Aeris dried her hands on a towel before scouting the small room for Michru and Emanulle.

Emanulle always did notice how gentle Aeris normally was, especially around children but during that brief moment with Michru he seemed to notice something else about her. The young man wouldn't know what it was exactly, not yet until someone pointed out but it would be the subtle nudge to pushing the two close together eventually.

The Elf girl(or half-elf) seemed tired after she was done eating. She trudged around after Elen, tugging at the woman's pant leg, gently demanding to be picked up. It was a cute scene and Emanulle had to keep from chuckling; the whole thing amused him.

He turned to Aeris. "Can I talk to you alone outside? I think Elen can handle Michru for the moment."

Aeris watched as Michru played the innocent young child she was. Pulling on Elen and gesturing to be lifted up. Aeris would have picked the little girl up and pulled her into her own arms if Emanulle hadn't just asked for her presence else where. With gleaming green eyes Aeris turned to Elen who smiled and dismissed the maiden off with a single wave of her hand. "I can handle things here. You go on ahead." She said softly while kneeling down, scooping the tiny figure into her arms and whisking her off into another area of the home.

Emerald hues then focused on Emanulle, slowly following him through the door of the shack. "Isn't it pretty outside?" Breathed the Cetra, taking in the final glimpses of sunlight and enjoying the darkness that spread across the sky. "So is something wrong, Manny?"

There was something about the starry night sky that brought out an almost otherworldly quality about Aeris' beauty. Maybe it was her Cetra heritage, or something else, he wasn't really quite sure. Either way, after glancing at her, he forced himself to look away a bit and at the sky.

"I'm slightly worried." Emanulle admitted after a bit. "You and Elen are all I really have. While I want to protect both of you, I thought maybe its about time I started teaching you how to defend yourself.." The young man seemed to be thinking. "Tell me. Have you had any training with a staff? I've seen you hold one before, you're pretty proficient at it. I suppose we could start there with what you already have a grasp of and then move onto hand to hand."

"I hope you don't have to use either, but just in case." Emanulle trailed off. "..I'm not letting you or Elen become another Eliza.." He muttered the last part.

"No I haven't really had training in any thing besides cooking." Aeris thought about it, not recalling what exactly brought her to use a staff to begin with. It felt right and yet it felt like she didn't use it entirely right. A staff with jewels was usually for mages, not for beating people to death. But then another thought came to be. She turned to Emanulle with a suddenly serious face. "Why are you asking me this? Are you afraid I won't be able to protect myself or something?"

Emanulle slowly nodded a bit. "I have to admit, a little. I just want you and Elen ready just in case." Just in case something were to happen to me. He thought, but kept that to himself. "That's why I want to begin training you with the things I know. Maybe if we're lucky we'll run into a magic-user that can teach you a few things. I think whether its your race, or just yourself you would have a raw talent for it. Just a feeling, at any rate."

With gleaming eyes that reflected just how beautiful the midnight sky had become Aeris smiled absently, as if seeing a figure in the sky that made her joyful. "Dilly-dally, shilly-shally." Her voice was like lyrics to a song. She repeated the phrase once more before turning to Emanulle. "Things will be fine, Emanulle. But if you think it's best then I can train." The palm of her left hand reached across the distance between the two and clapped gently on his shoulder. It was a soft gesture and her smile was just as soft. "Please don't worry yourself. You said yourself you can't take everything on your own shoulders. It's not healthy."

Emanulle smiled slowly at the last words. "I suppose I should take my own advice then, shouldn't I?" Here he had been going on about how you shouldn't try to bare the burdens on your own, and then he found himself doing exactly that. It was a good thing Aeris were here to nudge him in the right direction when ever he found himself veering off to some place else.

"We probably should be heading to bed then, I got what I needed to say out the way. As for training, we could start it on the way, right now wouldn't really be all that practical considering we need to leave some early time." He began slowly walking back towards the small hut, then paused. "On a lighter note, we need to bug your mother about making more of those Ginger Snaps of hers."

Aeris returned a bright, cheerful smile. "You don't need to bug her any more. I have a recipe down pat that I think you would love!" She was honestly a good cook but her talents lay mostly with baked goods like cookies and cakes. Her childish laughter bubbled at the thought of being able to cook for Emanulle and now Michru. Elen, though she did like cooking, just seemed to have lost her interest in sweets as of late. She was tired by now but instead of rising she turned to the heavens once more and gazed once more at the dazzling, flickering stars above.

Emanulle laughed pleasantly to that. "All right then Aeris, I'll have to judge them for myself when I get the chance."

Yes. As long as he had Aeris family around then nothing really seemed that bad.

Not even this coming war.

* *

Around the next morning, Michru was up and was surprisingly or not in all places Aeris' room. She was sitting in a chair, clutching her stuffed rabbit as she watched the sleeping beauty dream. The reason she was there was because partly she was bored, and the other was breakfast was being made and Aeris was still sleep. So, the little girl had taken it upon herself to wake Aeris up.

..Only she just been watching for a few minutes. Having lost her nerve.

Michru didn't want Aeris to get mad(never mind the odds of that were the same as Emanulle suddenly turning bad) some habits still died hard.

Finally, she got her nerve together and crawled on the bed with some effort. Then gently began to try to rouse Aeris, she couldn't talk so this was the only thing she could do.
