The young flower maiden had been known for sleeping in. Despite having been blessed a full nights sleep, she still tended to curl back into bed well after morning break. But not once did Aeris ever dream of being awaken the way she was today. It had initially been the faded beams of sunlight that twinkled in from the cracks in the ceiling that began the process of waking up but her body being shifted about had made her eyes open faster. As her vivid emerald hues twinkled with life she was greeted by the small face of Michru. Aeris, startled, sprang to sit up right in bed. "Michru." She said softly. "Did you come to wake me up?" The young woman smiled, patting Michru's shoulder gently. "Thank you very much."

The half-breed blinked a bit, then slowly and shyly smiled nodding her head. She couldn't speak but she could give a gist of what she wanted by other movements. Michru hopped off the bed then looked back, pausing as she thought of something.

Then she seemed to make up her mind, and instead patiently waited for Aeris to walk through the door, then she'd follow her into the kitchen.

In the kitchen in question, Emanulle was already up and about and cooking. Elen was by no means a bad cook, in fact he would go to say she was better then him. But she worked so hard that Emanulle did things like this to give her a break. After all the things she had done for them it was the very least they could do for her in the demon princes opinion. Elen treated him much like one of her own and never asked for anything in return.

Which reminds me, I'll have to ask her when her birthday is.
It was yet another thing to do finish on his ever growing 'to do' list in his mind.

Aeris was quick to pick up the idea and slid from the bed with ease. Before long she was strolling along side Michru in the direction of the kitchen. Elen had been up about the same time Emanulle had woken up. The older woman seemed occupied with gathering various things around the house. Such as supplies and articles of clothing which would come in handy if they were expected to travel.

Brown locks of hair were soon spotted in the kitchen and followed by a brightly smiling young lady clad in pink. Aeris seemed to skip as she motioned toward Emanulle. "So what's for breakfast today, Head Chef?"

Michru had followed the flower maiden all the way to the point where they had reached Emanulle. From there she seemed to linger just behind Aeris for a bit, before losing interest and heading to where Elen was packing. She wanted to help her, even if she really couldn't exactly do all that much since she so small.

"Seems someone can't sit still." Emanulle mused seeing the child soon go off to help Elen, then he answered Aeris' question. "I'm cooking something rather basic; bacon, eggs and pancakes. Your world doesn't seem all the ingredients to make a proper pancake, so you should be in a treat. That and Cinnamon toast, its sweet so you'll probably like it."

He knew how bad the young Cetra had it in for sweets, though honestly he was the same way. Most found that funny because with his personality they expected him to eat healthy food..that was hardly the case.

"You sleep well?"

Glowing eyes of green and blue hues stared with astonishment at Emanulle as he cooked. He knew her so well it seemed. She was terrible when it came to sweets. With a large grin Aeris took in the flavorful smell that wafted through the kitchen. "I slept just fine. Thank you." She said. "I was pretty tired and don't even remember crawling in bed. How did you sleep, Manny? Well I hope."

The demon prince shrugged a bit. "I slept well enough. Often times I don't even dream anymore, sometimes I miss it though." He glanced at Michru and smiled warmly. "You sleep well little one?"

Michru blinked at first at being addressed, then nodded a bit, shyly.

"That's good." Emanulle seemed genuinely pleased instead of the often fake enthusiasms most adults had towards children for things like that. "Anyway, once Elen and everyone else has their fill we'll get a move on, its something I want to get out the way." He thought it was odd but he was starting to miss the place in Sector seven. Or maybe more to the point he was starting to miss the home there.

Yes. That had to be it, he realized. It had nothing to do with the more dire state things were in there, or how the very Mako that powered their tools and equipment killed their planet and posioned their lands. It was just there, at Aeris and Elen's home, there was one place that still seemed untainted. It was like a small piece of heaven, cliche as they may sound, or more accurate a piece of sanctuary when he was there.

It reminded Emanulle of the lesson there was almost always good to be found no matter what world if you only looked.

Aeris took a seat at the table in the small kitchen. Leaning back in her chair she yawned and stretched much like a cat who lounges in the sunlight all day. "I love dreaming," She mentioned to Emanulle, almost upset that he didn't dream much. "Maybe you need to start taking some sleeping herbs to help you sleep at night. Then maybe you could dream again?" She was smiling warmly at him from across the span of the wooden table. There were times were even Elen had to laugh at how strange Aeris made her dreams to be. She wasn't fond of telling them any more since they were so outrageous.

Elen soon came into the kitchen and took a seat naturally by Michru. She smiled at the girl silently before addressing Emanulle. "Thanks for breakfast, it's nice not having to cook." The motherly figure chuckled heartily, her cheeks light with warmth. "So is everyone just about done packing?" There wasn't much to pack but Elen was sure Aeris was procrastinating again. Aeris simply looked away sheepishly.

"..I don't really have much in the way of packing.."

That was true. Emanulle had a few things with him, but he mostly just had the clothes on his back. Elen had gotten him some clothes during his time in the slums. Because of his nature Emanulle sometimes felt guilty just taking things like that since Elen was having a hard time as is.

"But to answer what you said Aeris, it would be something to think about." He wondered if his dreams would be just that or nightmares, it had been so long. Michru was content with just eating and keeping close to the two women, happy as a clam.

The young have it easy that way. They can view the world in a complete unbiased fashion and can see things even we adults can't.

"When you two are ready, we'll go." The former prince said. "I'm pretty sure we have everything we need from the village."

After breakfast and several more attempts of scolding Aeris into packing, Elen finally escorted the young flower maiden back to the bedroom where the two of them finished putting things away. Out of all of them it seemed Aeris and her infinite amount of clothing was enough to cloth all four of them for weeks. Some things Elen decided would stay as they were either too stained with dirt or just worn far too much. Once the two bags were done, Elen left the room as Aeris decided to change once more before the big trip.

The young girl with cocoa brown hair came skipping down the stairs with a smile blooming across her rosy pink lips. She was now wearing a short brown skirt that rested at mid-thigh with flower pink lace wrapped around her legs. Her shirt was a matching pink halter top with white lace around her chest. To Elen's astonishment the girl actually pulled off the look rather well. She looked more like a Country Gal than anything else and it made Elen smile happily.

"I'm ready." Chirped Aeris as she gave Elen a big hug.

Emanulle found himself slightly distracted by Aeris clothing, mostly the halter-top as she was usually covered up a lot so it rather surprised him. His attention was shifted away from that quickly, not wanting to stare and berating himself for letting his mind wander for a moment. Though he supposed it couldn't be helped, a gentleman he was but he was still a man.

A man that was rather attracted to Aeris.

Slowly a small smile showed on the young man's face. "You look nice Aeris. It..fits you." He couldn't think of another word for it, he had never been too good with the opposite sex in terms of what to say; far as compliments went.

"Anyway, if we're all ready, then there's no point in delaying it any longer. Lets go."

* *

It was something of a long trek to this 'Aiur' kingdom that the elder had been talking about. Since the village had very little in the way of fighters, Emanulle was one of the prime defenders in case there was ever any bandits or monsters looking for any prey. Suffice to say, the young man was a bit overworked, having not only have to protect his family, but all the others who were with him. It was fortunate he didn't need as much sleep, still even he had his limits.

That was why it was a blessing when they finally arrived to their destination. Tired and weary bodies saw fit just to sit down and collapse on the outskirts of the large gate which lead inside the main part of the kingdom. Michru, of course, stayed with Aeris, Elen and Emanulle at all times. She didn't really trust anyone else from the village. At the moment she was staying by Elen most of the time, having grown really attached to the mother figure in the short amount of time.

The gates weren't opened instantly, as it seemed the guards were evulating the people waiting outside before they did anything. One of them, on top of the wall that surrounded the city inside called down to them.

"Strangers, why are you here?"

One of the elders spoke up, a older woman. "We seek shelter from the war. We come from the south most village from this location."

Puzzled a bit, the guard looked at a nearby companion of his. "I don't think we have the room."

"Make some." The other grunted.

The younger one frowned. "And if Francis were to find out?"

"I don't care what him and his over grown man child thinks. Open the damned gate."

With a bit longer bit of hesitation, they opened the gates, allowing the tired travelers to come through.

When they arrived at the gates Aeris stood beside Emanulle and Michru with Elen only an arms length behind her. Elen soon came up behind Aeris and grasped the girls thin shoulder. Both were very unsure of the situation. They were glad that the villagers were able to handle the situation themselves and even the guards, though reluctantly, finally allowed them passage. "So this is where we will be staying?" Questioned Aeris absently. Elen was quick to examine the change of scenery.

"Yes, it is."

The voice came from the older man who had got them to open the gates just moments ago. He seemed to be in his late thirties to older forties. There was a slight scar above his right eye and one running along his left arm that though healed, was still visible with a long gash. He had clearly medieval armor on, though of a different style from what was seen in the books. He had plain black hair and eyes, and despite the scars and battle-worn look, he gave off a kindly aura.

For some reason Emanulle almost instantly liked him.

"My name Maxwell Smith, captain of the castle wall guards. I'm sorry about some of my.." He glanced at some of the younger men. "..Subordinates were a bit off putting. They're still new and do too much by how its told to them at the academy. I'll be taking you where you'll all be staying." He began walking to lead the group.

"You've been most kind." Kayame, one of the elder at the village said.

Maxwell glanced back at some of the guest, in particular Emanulle's group. There was something about the four that was..different. All of them were and he hadn't the slightest clue why. "If I may ask, what are your names?"

"Emanulle Santos." The demon prince noticed Michru staying by Aeris, or in particular gripping her pants leg the whole time as if she let go, she'd get lost. It amused him, and to be honest was cute. "The little one is Michru, she can't speak."

Aeris smiled at the man. He did not strike her as anything but gentle and kind hearted. Elen seemed to continue the beaming smile that her daughter had begun. "You are most kind." Said Elen to the man. It was then that Aeris spoke up, to answer his question anyways.

"My name is Aeris and this is my mother Elen." The brown haired maiden had indicated Elen with her index finger. "This is such a lovely place."

"I'm very glad you think so." The older man said, pleased. "I wish I could have met you all under better conditions. When things settle down a bit I'll be glad to show you around our small humble kingdom of Aiur."

Maxwell lead them not instantly to the castle, but a large nearby building that seemed to be a huge Inn. It was pretty quite once inside of the place. However, it was nicely decorated and didn't seem to be some cheap living place. To many of the villagers, it would impressive but Emanulle had seen much better during his travels, never mind back at home.

"You're not the first refugee's to come to here." He explained to the elder. "So we decided to use a place where we could temporarily place them until we could figure something out. You all can find rooms up the stairs if you wish and if you like, you can explore the city. Keep in mind because you're strangers we'll have to keep a eye on your people for a bit, Elder Kayame."

Kayame didn't seem offended, she nodded. "I understand. I'll make sure nobody wanders off on their own."

Maxwell was about to continue when he noticed something that made him frown. A young man in his twenties stepped in--or more accurately strolled in as if he owned the place. He ignored most of the small number villagers as he came inside.

"You did not tell me about more guest, Maxwell."

Maxwell didn't seem happy to see them. "That's because they just came in.What can I do for you Luthor?"

"Sir Luthor." He corrected with a smile. "It's an title and it's there for a reason." His gaze fell on Emanulle's group, ignoring the man, briefly glancing at Elen and frowning just slightly at Michru after he noticed her pointed ears. The only person his gaze lingered on, was Aeris.

Emanulle didn't know why but that really got under his skin. Naturally it was because he was protective of those he cared about, but it seemed just a bit more then that. He didn't want that man anywhere near Aeris.

"Ah. And this lovely flower would be?" They asked politely.

Luthor, no wait...Sir Luthor was a different sight, thought Elen bitterly. Already she could tell Manny's tense features as the young boy collected himself before the small group. She couldn't explain why but whenever Emanulle felt uneasy about something Elen was the first to pick up on that. Call it Motherly Instincts. However Aeris was hardly aware of that. Instead she gave a polite bow to Luthor before smiling. "My name is Aeris. This is my friend Emanulle, my mother Elen and this little one is Michru." She only explained again since Emanulle had just finished doing so with the elder. She felt that it was her turn. "Pleasure to meet you."

Luthor was intrigued by the young flower known as Aeris. The small child seemed to be of Eleven background so she was deemed as unimportant in his eyes. Elves were heretical creatures that most had turned their back on the Gods. He didn't want to associate with most of barbarian's but he didn't have much to worry about from a child.

This Emanulle, he wasn't sure what he was, but definitely not human. He gave the appearance of one to be sure and was quite convincing at it but there was something..more about him. It would definitely be something in the future to keep a eye on.

In the present, he bowed slightly to the group. "An honor to meet you all, I'm sure. If you like Aeris, I could show you and yours more of this fair city."

"That won't be needed." Emanulle said, voice neutral.

Maxwell gave a polite cough that likely wasn't necessary. "Sir Luthor, don't you have duties to tend to from the King?"

The Dragon Knight face flickered to annoyance, then it was gone in an instant replaced by a more amicable mask. "Of course. I was just distracted by the new guest. If you'll excuse me."

As they left, Maxwell turned to them. "I apologize. Sir Luthor is head of the Dragon Knights and he has a lot of power; both physically and politically. It gets to his head I'm afraid." Michru moved a bit from her spot, just behind Elen but otherwise said nothing.

"It's fine." Emanulle felt it wasn't needed to start a fight about it. For now. "Where are we allowed to venture too and from?"

"Ah. You mean explore?" At the nod, the old guard thought it over. "We'll, I suppose most areas would be all right besides the more restricted ones. You'll know when you see it. I'll have guards around to help direct things. This is just a normal security measure until your group becomes part of this city."

Aeris seemed eager at the notion of exploring the city. She snatched Emanulle's arm with both hands, bearing a large smile the way she always did. "This should be fun." She encouraged, glancing back at Elen and Michru. Elen didn't seem to mind the idea either. She too was fascinated by the large city. After Midgar, it would be a nice change of pace to see a NICE city for once. "Well let's get our feet moving, shall we?" Aeris said to Emanulle.

Maybe it was something else, but Emanulle felt a bit warm when Aeris grabbed his hand. Why, he wasn't really quite sure. While Emanulle was a very intelligent young man, he wasn't all knowing and didn't catch everything. So he didn't know the reason he felt more warm when the half-Cetra grabbed his hand was because of his growing feelings for the young girl.

He'd find out sooner or later.

"Good, good." Maxwell said with a small smile, motioning for one of the young guards to come over. "Jake here will escort you. I'll come along as well, but only for a short time as I have other duties to get too."

Then he began to lead them, Jake in tow. Michru stayed silent because she couldn't talk herself. However, for the most part she stayed very close to Aeris' mother the whole time. The fact her hand was being held seemed to calm the young girl however.

"I'm curious." Maxwell said as they walked around the beautiful city. "Does the place you hail from look anything like this?"

Emanulle thought briefly back to his own home and almost smiled. "In a way. This makes me feel a bit back home. I can't speak for Aeris or Ellen though."

A sparkle fluttered in Aeris' eyes. Emanulle's home was like this...But it must have been twice as beautiful, she thought after a second. Nothing on Gaia seemed as elegant as this city appeared. The thought of her home world made the Cetra feel uncomfortable. The planet that cried.

Elen took note of Aeris change in demeanor. She decided to speak for the young girl instead. "Our home planet is nothing compared to this. This is marvelous."
